There’s no denying that the University of Rochester’s waitlist acceptance rate swings around a fair amount from year to year. For the Class of 2024 (the first admission cycle following the onset of the Covid-19 Pandemic and thus a time when many would-be applicants decided to take a gap year), slightly less than one in five waitlisted applicants earned admission, while for the Class of 2026, a mere two years later, only 1.39% of waitlisted applicants were admitted. What is to blame for this high variability and very low predictability?

If we had to point fingers, University of Rochester’s yield rate from year to year (or the percentage of admitted students who choose to enroll) would be the suspect.
