So maybe it’s not the Athens you learned about in social studies class, but Athens, Georgia boasts a university tied at #19 on the US News & World Report “Top Public Schools” ranking. Although classes didn’t begin until 1801, the University of Georgia was chartered in 1789, making it the oldest public university in the United States (though Tar Heels at the University of North Carolina will say it’s them, since they held their first classes in 1795). Instead, admissions officers face the daunting challenge of building up a student body in which each person is going to be an extraordinary contributor. 

Can Students Get into the Georgia with a Low GPA?

We’re going to hold your hand when we say this: it’s possible, but it’s not probable.  You’ll notice that 1.25% of enrolled students fell within the 3.5-3.74 GPA range, 0.31% fall within the 3.25-3.49% range, 0.16% fall within the 3.0-3.24 range, and 0.21% came in with very low GPAs in the 2.5-2.99 range. But these numbers usually represent students who are exceptional cases. We’d wager that many are in fact recruited athletes.
