Applicants to the Smith College Class of 2030 have learned their fates by now. If this year is anything like previous years, the acceptance rate at Smith College will be competitively low: for the Smith Class of 2028, it was a mere 21%. Ivy Coach’s Crystal Ball Takes on the Smith College Class of 2030

While we at Ivy Coach like to joke about our famously accurate crystal ball, all jokes aside, we do have a wealth of experience and expertise in predicting elite college admissions statistics. Drawing on this knowledge, here’s what we predict for the Smith College Class of 2030:

For the Class of 2030, applications to Smith College will likely stay around 8,666, maybe even increasing by a few hundred. Though applications to Smith College climbed from 2021 to 2023, they saw a dip of over 1,200 in 2024. We predict that they won’t dip further as schools similarly competitive to Smith have seen applications increase in the past two years. That means applicants can expect competitive admissions rates, and that they’ll need good grades, high scores, and a compelling hook to compete. 

What will stay consistent is Smith’s love for applicants for students who make binding commitments to attend. In the past five admissions cycles, the Early Decision admission rate to Smith has been dramatically higher than the Regular Decision admission rate. And Early Decision admits make up well over half of  Smith’s past five classes. If you want in at Smith, we at Ivy Coach would strongly advise applying Early Decision.

What Separates a Successful Smith College Applicant from the Rest

As Smith becomes more competitive, the women admitted become even more impressive. Let’s quickly discuss what separated the 21% of successful applicants to the Smith College Class of 2028 from the rest. 79% of the Smith College Class of 2028 were in the top tenth of their high school graduating class. The average SAT score for the women of the Smith College Class of 2028 was a 1480, and the average ACT score was a 34. It’s a safe bet that all of these women also had stupendously impressive extracurricular achievements. And no: that doesn’t mean they were in a dozen clubs and participated in three seasons of sports. Instead, it means they were singularly impressive in one area: maybe they were a nationally ranked debate champion, authored an award-winning scientific paper in the field of women’s health (outside of class time!), or wrote an original play and used the funds from ticket sales to support arts education among refugee communities. 

Let’s also discuss the demographics of those successful applicants to Smith College. Only 188 came from Massachusetts, which is good news for most of you, but bad news for the Red Sox fans who thought they had a hometown advantage. 1,467 came from other states. And only 167 came from countries outside of the United States. 

Finally, let’s discuss the waitlist. For the Smith College Class of 2028, 1,531 students were offered spots on the waitlist. 43 of those applicants eventually received admission. That’s a waitlist acceptance rate of only 2.8%.
