Only 6.39% of GT students in the Class of 2028 had a GPA below 4.0 when they applied and were admitted. What Kinds of Extracurriculars Does Georgia Institute of Technology Like To See?

This may come as a shock to anyone familiar with the fable of the well-rounded student, but Georgia Tech (like all other selective universities) would rather a student excel in one area than spread themselves thin across multiple pursuits. Why? Because they want to admit well-rounded classes (not students!) comprised of individuals who are going to become leaders and experts. Georgia Tech exclusively uses The Common Application for first-year admission. They ask for one counselor recommendation and two teacher recommendations. Finally, they ask one 50 to 300-word supplemental question: “Why do you want to study your chosen major specifically at Georgia Tech?”

Who Should Students Ask For Letters of Recommendation For Georgia Tech?

Georgia Tech applicants should ask two junior year teachers with whom they’ve had formative relationships and in whose classes they’ve excelled. Since this is Georgia Tech, one of the recommenders should be a STEM teacher who can speak to the student’s ability to excel in an institute of technology.
