So what’s UPenn’s overall admission rate for the Class of 2030, and how has the Ivy League school’s admission rate changed over the last decade and a half? Let’s find out!

UPenn Class of 2030 Acceptance Rate

UPenn recently announced a 5.8% acceptance rate for the Class of 2030, with 3,575 students admitted from a pool of 61,264 applicants. As the first admission cycle conducted after Penn reinstated mandatory testing requirements, this year’s acceptance rate is naturally a fair bit higher than last year’s 4.9% acceptance rate for the Class of 2029, as there were no “squeakers,” or students who try to squeak by Penn’s rigorous academic standards by applying without submitting test scores, in this year’s applicant pool.

UPenn Acceptance Rate and Application Trends

Over the last 17 complete admissions cycles, figures that include data from both the Early Decision and Regular Decision rounds, a few trends stand out:

• The applicant pool has dramatically expanded and then subsequently deflated a bit this year following the university’s decision to reinstate mandatory standardized testing.
• The total number of admitted students each year has more or less stayed the same. If anything, the number of admitted students has dropped.
• The overall acceptance rate has taken a nosedive (it’s become more competitive).

In fact, in all but three of the last 17 years, UPenn’s overall acceptance rate has plummeted. The cause? It’s not that UPenn is admitting fewer students (though this number has dropped a bit over the years). Rather, look no further than the surging applications to the Ivy League institution: in all but two years over the last 17 admissions cycles (the Classes of 2017 and 2030), total applications to UPenn have increased year-over-year.
