Did you apply Early Decision to Cornell University’s Class of 2028? If so, you might be in search of this year’s Early Decision admissions statistics. But we regret to inform you that while Cornell ED decisions are out for the Class of 2028, the Ivy League institution has not yet released its figures. And don’t hold your breath because it will be months before we at Ivy Coach can share them with our readers.

Cornell Delays Reporting Its Admissions Statistics

In March 2020, Cornell announced that it would no longer release its Early Decision or Regular Decision admissions statistics at the conclusion of each cycle. The school, following in the footsteps of Stanford University, last released its Early Decision admissions statistics at the end of the Early round for the Class of 2024.

At the time, as Madeline Rosenberg reported for The Cornell Daily Sun in a piece on Cornell withholding admissions figures, “Jonathan Burdick, vice provost for enrollment, told The Sun in a statement that the University will instead release application numbers after the admissions year has ended — a move that arrives because the University does not want to discourage qualified applicants.”

Burdick said then, “While metrics such as application numbers and admissions rates are an area of focus for many as they review annual activity in higher education, Cornell’s thorough and holistic review processes mean that no one applicant’s chances can be guided by ’averages.”

Cornell’s Withholding of Admissions Statistics is Farcical

To Burdick’s reasoning, we at Ivy Coach say, nonsense! Cornell doesn’t withhold its Early Decision and Regular Decision admissions statistics because they’re worried about the anxiety levels of their applicants.

No, Cornell withholds its admissions statistics because they don’t want to discourage applicants from applying. After all, the more students who apply to Cornell, the higher the institution will be ranked in the all-important US News & World Report annual list. Publishing diminishing admission rates isn’t exactly encouraging to these prospective students, so they decided to buck the trend and keep the figures close to the vest.

But, of course, Cornell can’t keep these admissions statistics a secret for too long since schools must eventually release their figures to The Common Data Set.

Cornell Early Decision Admissions Statistics Over 20+ Years

As you can glean from Ivy Coach’s statistics on Cornell’s Early Decision and Regular Decision rounds, we eventually aggregate all of the statistics. In fact, we’ve got all of the data from the Class of 2007 through the Class of 2026, and we’ve started filling in the statistics that have since come out for the Class of 2027. So, the Early Decision admissions statistics for the Cornell Class of 2028, while not available now, will be on our site in due time.
