University of Massachusetts — Amherst is the flagship campus of the University of Massachusetts system, ranked #64 in the nation by the US News & World Report. UMass — Amherst had an acceptance rate of 59.73% for the Class of 2028, their most recently published Common Data Set.

Unfortunately, UMass has not publicly shared acceptance rate data for its Early Action program. However, even though we don’t have the data to substantiate this claim, Ivy Coach’s highly educated guess is that EA applicants get into UMass at a higher rate than their Regular Decision counterparts. This is the truth across almost all universities that offer both an Early and a Regular Decision program, and we assume UMass would not be an exception. 

A Look Back at the UMass Class of 2029

For the schools that offer an Early Decision program that contractually binds accepted students to enroll, that acceptance rate is usually available in the school’s Common Data Sets. However, for Early Action programs, this data is usually not included in the CDS. We wish this wasn’t the case, and we think universities should be transparent about all of their admissions statistics! However, luckily, we’ve been in this business long enough to be able to read between the lines here: EA applicants get an advantage, whether or not the school wants to admit it. 

As mentioned on their website in the UMass Class of 2029 profile, an increasing number of students are catching on to this EA advantage, with a notable increase in Early applicants every year to a whopping almost 33,000 applicants this past year.

The Early Action acceptances for UMass — Amherst are expected in January, so eager applicants have a little longer to wait. We wish there was more data we could share! However, UMass keeps things close to the chest, and we doubt when they inevitably release their Common Data Set for the Class of 2030, it will be any different than the prior years in terms of offering Early Action data transparently.
