The University of Connecticut is a public university located in Mansfield, Connecticut. Their overall acceptance rate for the Class of 2028 was 52.39%, with an Early Decision acceptance rate of around 60%. The reason for the higher acceptance rate for students who apply ED, and we’ll shout this from the rooftops, is because students who are willing to make a binding early commitment to a school will ultimately boost the school’s yield (a.k.a. the number of students who accept their offer of enrollment) and are therefore more compelling applicants. 

We will note that it’s fairly uncommon for a public university to only offer Early Decision, rather than Early Action. There are only a select few public schools that offer this. For example, the University of Virginia offers Early Decision (note that they also offer Early Action alongside, rather than just Early Decision).  

UConn Early Decision Admissions Statistics

UConn launched their Early Decision program only recently, for fall of 2024 applicants, which is who comprises the Class of 2029. UConn offered Early Decision again this year for the Class of 2030. No wonder there’s no historical data! They don’t even have it fully compiled yet (UConn has not yet published their 2025-2026 Common Data Set, which will contain details about the Class of 2029). 

On the school’s decision to offer Early Decision, rather than Early Action, University spokesperson Stephanie Reitz said in a written statement, “For students who are sure that UConn is their top choice, it provides certainty early in their college search process as to whether they will be future Huskies, and lets them start their planning while they’re still early in their senior year.”

Breakdown of the University of Connecticut’s Class of 2029 Admits

Although we don’t have concrete historical data for UConn because their Early Decision program is so new, we have a little bit of information about the inaugural Early Decision acceptance rate at this public university. In an article for UConn Today, the school confirmed that they received about 1,500 applications and offered admission to about 60% of those students, meaning approximately 900 ED applicants heard back good news. That’s a pretty solid number!
