The Ivy Coach Daily
Occidental College Class of 2030 Early Decision Admission Statistics
Occidental College is the perfect fit for high school seniors seeking an academically rigorous and close-knit campus without having to go through the stress of a highly selective admission process. As a liberal arts college, great teaching is naturally at the forefront of the Occidental experience. But you might be hearing us sing the praises of “Oxy” and still be thinking: “But Ivy Coach, is there a way I can really stand out in the eyes of Occidental admissions officers? A 45% acceptance rate does not sound like winning odds to me.” Well, you’re in luck!
You see, the best of the best Occidental applicants make themselves stick out by applying via one of two Early Decision rounds: Early Decision I and Early Decision II. ED I is for the students who know, without a shadow of a doubt, that Occidental is where they’d like to end up for the next four years. This binding admission process signals a deep interest in Occidental, which is rewarded with heightened odds of admission compared to RD applicants. The same is true of ED II applicants, just with a slightly less pronounced impact on acceptance, as these students are not reviewed before RD candidates but rather alongside them.
Still, these are some pretty big claims, and we wouldn’t blame you for asking us to substantiate them with some hard and fast numbers. Fortunately, Occidental, unlike some other schools who shall not be named, is very transparent regarding its admission statistics. Let’s review:
Occidental College Early Decision Admission Statistics Over 25+ Years
For admission to the Class of 2029, a combined total of 65% of ED I and ED II applicants to Occidental wound up with acceptance letters, compared to an overall acceptance rate of 44.6%. That’s a nearly 50% increase in admissions odds pulled off by the simple act of applying Early! And if you take a gander at the historical data stretching back to the early aughts, this trend prevails:

Breakdown of the Class of 2030 Early Decision Admits to Occidental
We’re still awaiting the data covering the admits to the ongoing Class of 2030 cycle. But one thing is for certain and does not require us to wait around for an Oxy press release: once all is said and done, ED admits to Occidental will produce a 100% yield rate! And why? Because such students are contractually bound to attend if admitted. That’s a big factor in why they receive such an admission boost in the first place.
