Bucknell University, despite what its name might seem to indicate, is not, in fact, a university at all! It’s instead a private liberal arts college with a prestigious reputation and a moderately selective admission process. Among prospective students, the ones who play their cards right apply via one of two Early Decision rounds, both of which come with a boost to the odds of admission. And what accounts for this boost? Demonstrated interest, of course.

That’s right. Whether Bucknell admission officers would admit it or not, they very much do care when applicants demonstrate their interest in attending. And Early Decision applicants have demonstrated their Bucknelliness more than anyone because ED I and ED II are both binding admission rounds, meaning students admitted through them are contractually obligated to enroll. Early Decision thus drives up yield rate, or the proportion of admitted students who end up enrolling. Yield rate is a major contributor to college rankings on sites like the U.S. News, so Bucknell admissions officers naturally want to reward the ED applicants who boost their institutional metrics with a higher likelihood of admission.

However, although we’re knee deep in the Class of 2030 admission cycle, Bucknell has yet to release any data on the Early Decision I admits who were recently admitted. As the Early Decision II and Regular Decision rounds unfold, this data could elucidate how competitive this year’s admissions cycle may end up being. But for now, it’s just a waiting game.

Take a gander at the data below and you might be somewhat perplexed with what you see. Bucknell’s combined ED I and II acceptance rate has hardly budged over the last 15 years. In fact, the last five cohorts for which the data is publicly available all landed within the 54% and 56% range. That’s a remarkable degree of consistency considering the prevailing trend across elite schools of Bucknell’s caliber has been decreasing acceptance rate during this period:

To date, Bucknell has not yet released any demographic information on the ED I admits to the Class of 2030 (or the Class of 2029, for that matter!).
