With University of Washington, Seattle decisions released for the Class of 2030, the time has come to assess whether this was a record-breaking cycle for one of the oldest institutions of higher education on the West Coast, or whether U-Dub admissions officers have been left with the tail between their legs. 

But not so fast. While the admissions statistics for this recently admitted cohort are still forthcoming, there’s still plenty for us to unpack below. We’ll review historical acceptance rate data to give you the best sense of what to expect once the specifics of the Class of 2030 come to light.

University of Washington’s Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective

Over the last five years, the acceptance rate at the University of Washington has averaged 44.89%, while the average size of the applicant pool over the same period was 27,027.

Last year was a historic year for the University of Washington, with a whopping (and record-breaking) 72,933 students applying to try their shot at becoming Huskies. That’s roughly the population of Flagstaff, AZ! And the year before that, for the Class of 2028 admission, U-Dub experienced a record-setting acceptance rate of 39.15%. Both of these recent records set by this prestigious public research university bode well for the number of students who applied this time around. Could this year be yet another victorious year? Alas, only time will tell whether this was indeed a record-breaking year for the University of Washington. Such data will be published in the forthcoming 2026-2027 Common Data Set if it’s not published sooner by University of Washington officials.

The Demographics of the UW Class of 2030

Just as we have been left in the dark about the acceptance rate for the Class of 2030, so too are we regarding the demographics of this new Huskie cohort. But the Class of 2029, on the other hand, has a few data points published in the online Class Profile. For example, it states that the acceptance rate for Washington State residents was 47% last year, whereas it was only 39% for non-domestic applicants, reflecting an institutional preference for domestic students that’s by no means surprising given the school’s status as a public university.
