University of Maryland’s Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective

So, over the last five years, the average acceptance rate at the University of Maryland, College Park, has been 46.23%. That’s simple enough. This rate has remained remarkably consistent over the years, unlike many schools that have seen their college acceptance rates decline. 

But something interesting happens when one examines the applicant pool size and the total number of acceptances over time. Sometime around the time the Class of 2025 was admitted, the applicant pool skyrocketed (with roughly 18,000 more applicants that year than the prior year). And why?
