With the admission of the Class of 2030, the University of Georgia has cemented its status as a rising star among elite universities by setting new records for its acceptance rate and applicant count. This is no small feat, considering that many universities this year were unable to match previous records or spark interest among prospective applicants. UGA’s Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective

As UGA Today, the University of Georgia’s publicity website, proudly states in a press release regarding the Class of 2030, “This year, more than 51,600 students – a record number – submitted an application to UGA.” While precise numbers have yet to be reported, UGA officials report that over 15,400 of these students were admitted, yielding a projected acceptance rate of roughly 29.84%. This makes 2025-2026 the most successful year on record for the University of Georgia, although taking a look at the historical data reveals that this year’s triumph is by no means a surprise.

The trend over the last decade or so of admission cycles couldn’t be clearer: interest in attending the University of Georgia tends to increase each year, and the acceptance rate tends to decrease. To make this trajectory even more impressive, the University of Georgia has also been trending toward admitting larger cohorts of students each year, meaning that the acceptance rate has declined even as more students earn acceptance letters. In all senses, the University of Georgia’s stock is going up!

The Demographics of the Georgia Class of 2030

The UGA Today press release that announced a record-breaking year has also revealed some demographic details regarding the Class of 2030: “As the state’s flagship university, UGA remains committed to serving Georgia’s students. This admitted class includes students from 156 of Georgia’s 159 counties, highlighting the impact of UGA’s widespread in-state recruitment efforts and the university’s reputation in both urban and rural communities.”

The announcement continues, “The admitted class includes students from more than 2,800 high schools, representing all 50 states as well as Washington, D.C. Admitted students in this year’s class also demonstrated strong academic achievement, with an average ACT score of 32.47 and an average SAT score of 1421. On average, 93% of their grades were A’s, and 77.5% completed the most rigorous curriculum available at their high school, including Advanced Placement or dual enrollment courses.”

More robust demographic information on this cohort, including racial demographics (which cannot yet legally be recorded, per the 2023 SCOTUS ruling outlawing the use of race-based affirmative action), will soon be available with the publication of the 2026-2027 Common Data Set.
