Over the last five years, an average of 42,842 students have applied to join the University of Connecticut per year. Of these thousands of applicants, an average of 23,254 earned admission, resulting in a five-year average acceptance rate of 54.51%. 

This acceptance rate has remained fairly consistent over the years, even as the total number of applicants has steadily increased. How could this be?
