Union Class of 2030 Statistics in Historical Perspective

Over the last five years, Union College has drawn record numbers of applicants, but this heightened interest hasn’t translated into record-low acceptance rates. An average of 8,536 students have applied to Union College per year over the past five years, while an average of 3,828 have been admitted during this period. The recent Class of 2029 produced the largest applicant pool on record, with 9,246 applicants. However, despite this record volume of applicants, the acceptance rate hovered at 43.42% last year, which is by no means record-setting.

How could Union College draw in record numbers of applicants without becoming more selective? Our theory is that the yield rate at Union College has steadily declined in the last few years, meaning that a diminishing proportion of admitted students have enrolled each year. This would require Union College admissions officers to admit more applicants to offset declining enrollment, thereby explaining the discrepancy between the applicant pool and the acceptance rate.
