UC Irvine Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective

The Class of 2030 has yet to be released by UC Irvine admissions officials, meaning it’s unclear whether this year has set any new records for the total number of applicants or the acceptance rate. However, the trend line in the data couldn’t be clearer. A new record number of applicants has been recorded every single year since the Class of 2021. Interestingly, this upswing in interest hasn’t been accompanied by a lower average acceptance rate over time. While the Class of 2026 set the lowest acceptance rate on record for Irvine, at 21.15%, the past two admissions cycles have returned more-or-less average results. 

How is this possible, given that incredible numbers of applicants have poured into the UC Irvine admissions cycle during this window? The answer lies in the size of the admitted student cohort, which has steadily increased over time as the acceptance rate has dwindled.
