Pomona College’s Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective

While we don’t yet know the acceptance rate for the Class of 2030, this year’s 876 admits were roughly expected, given the size of recently admitted student cohorts. And while Pomona’s acceptance rate hasn’t broken any records since the Class of 2027 was admitted at 6.76%, there has been an undeniable downward trend in acceptance that bodes well for the selectivity of the Class of 2030.

However, only time will tell whether admissions officers at Pomona had reason to celebrate their school’s performance for this past admissions cycle. Stay tuned for the next iteration of the Pomona Common Data Set, which will reveal all such juicy details on the Class of 2030.

Demographic Breakdown of Pomona’s Class of 2030

According to a hefty report straight from the belly of the beast (Pomona College itself), the admits to the Class of 2030 hail from all 50 states, Washington D.C., and 44 countries. 29% of this cohort will be the first in their families to attend college, while 12% are international students. The report continues, “Outside of California, the top U.S. states where admitted students come from are New York, Texas, Washington, Illinois, Florida, Massachusetts, Oregon and Arizona.”

Interestingly, Pomona also reports that 23% of this cohort indicated their first-choice major in the humanities, 23% in interdisciplinary fields, 24% in the natural sciences, 26% in the social sciences, and 4% were undecided about their field of study, a roughly even split in an era when many students at schools of Pomona’s calliber increasingly opt for STEM majors. We at Ivy Coach applaud Pomona for sharing much more about their fresh crop of Sagehens, but we will be the first to report back once Pomona publishes this year’s acceptance rate in the forthcoming Common Data Set.
