As a proud member of the Claremont College consortium, Pitzer College is no stranger to prestige or high admissions competition. But has this held true for the most recent round of applicants, who recently learned whether they were admitted to the Class of 2030? As of now, the data is still forthcoming, but we’d like to take this opportunity to walk down memory lane and look at the historical acceptance rate over the years to muster our best guess as to how this year went.

Pitzer College’s Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective

There’s something fishy going on in the data laid out above. Whereas the vast majority of elite colleges out there have seen dramatically declining acceptance rates over the past two decades of admissions cycles, the opposite appears to be true at Pitzer College. The last time Pitzer recorded an acceptance rate below 20% was for the Class of 2022, when 16.66% of hopefuls received an acceptance letter. Prior to then, Pitzer routinely recorded acceptance rates below 15% throughout the 2010s. The last two admission cycles on record, however, have completely bucked this trend. A slim 3,428 students applied to join Pitzer’s Class of 2029, the lowest applicant total in at least nine years.

This decline in popularity does not bode well for the Class of 2030 (which has yet to be released) and signals an institutional crisis at Pitzer. If this liberal arts college cannot drum up interest, acceptance rates will, in all likelihood, continue to rise as fewer students apply each year. Whether this trend will hold for the Class of 2030 remains to be seen, but all signs point in that direction.
