No school has quite mastered the art of rising the ranks of institutional prestige quite like Northeastern University. This Boston, MA-based private research university made waves for its meteoric rise to the upper echelons of selectivity over a short period, in no small part thanks to the masterful manipulation of its US News ranking among the top national universities. Has the recent admission of the Class of 2030 punctuated this trend with yet another triumphant year of record-setting admissions, or has Northeastern lost some of its momentum? 

The data for the Class of 2030 has yet to be publicized, but by walking through recent admission cycles and interpreting the data therein, Ivy Coach will use our famously accurate crystal ball to predict Northeastern’s acceptance rate this year.

Northeastern University Class of 2030 Statistics in Historical Perspective

The chart above underscores, in no uncertain terms, that Northeastern’s upward trajectory into the ranks of the most selective colleges in the nation is nothing short of legendary. Six short years ago, roughly one out of every five Northeastern applicants could expect to earn admission. By no means was Northeastern easy to get into, but compared to its Ivy League neighbor across the Charles River, this acceptance rate was child’s play. But over the next few cycles, applications to Northeastern would skyrocket (with the Class of 2026 pool increasing an astounding 15,576 applicants over the previous year!). 

The record for the lowest acceptance rate at Northeastern goes to the Class of 2028, in which a slim 5.22% of hopeful Huskies actually saw their dreams of admission realized. The following year, for admission to the Class of 2029 (the most recent admission cycle for which we have data), this figure would climb slightly to 5.62%. In both cases, this places Northeastern among the most selective schools in the country.

For now, all we know about the Class of 2030 is that an impressive 105,190 students applied for first-year admission. While this doesn’t break the record for most applications set last year (at a whopping 105,256), it comes pretty darn close! And once this year’s acceptance rate comes out, we predict it will fall in the 5-6% range, but will not set any new records.

As of the publication of this blog, there are no updates to give on the demographics of the recently admitted Class of 2030. The shape and texture of this incoming class, including its average academic profile, socioeconomic breakdown, geographic origins, and racial demographics, are still forthcoming. However, once the 2026-2027 Common Data Set is uploaded sometime this fall, which will serve as a one-stop shop for every last admission statistic for this past cycle, all of the burning questions you may have about this incoming cohort of Huskies will be answered.
