Middlebury College’s Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective

Last year was a rather disappointing admissions cycle for Middlebury admissions officers. With the lowest number of applicants in five years and an acceptance rate that increased by nearly one percentage point from the year before, Middlebury’s lackluster showing indicates that the tides could be turning for the worse at this private liberal arts college. 

Don’t get us wrong. A 12.77% acceptance rate is still nothing to dismiss, especially given the historical acceptance rate at Middlebury which, not too long ago, clocked in well above this number. But amidst record-setting performances among Middlebury’s peer schools, this average showing appears all the more, well, average. Could last year’s figures be a canary in the coal mine for the competition that the Class of 2030 faced? Only time will tell, as this data is not yet available.

Without any admissions data, there’s nothing we can share about the newly incoming Panthers. We don’t know whether they have a more competitive academic profile than the Class of 2029, how many of them hailed from international countries, what the first-generation representation looks like in this class, or the racial makeup.
