Indiana University Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective
So, as you may have noticed, the data laid out above are somewhat anomalous. While most colleges across the country have been experiencing declines in acceptance rates due to increased competition, this is not true of Indiana University. In fact, if you were to travel back in time to the early 2010s, you would notice that Indiana University applicants were admitted at a slightly lower rate than the average acceptance rate recorded over the last five years (a 73% average acceptance rate over 2010-2014 compared to an 80% average over 2021-2025). What gives?
Well, the answer may lie with the volume of applications accepted. After all, one problem Indiana University does not face is a lack of students interested in attending. The total number of applicants has shot up during this span, from around 36,000 sixteen years ago to well over twice that number in the record-setting Class of 2029 cycle. In other words, there appears to be a slow but steady increase in Indiana University’s admitted student capacity, likely due to an institutional goal of enrolling more students. So even though the acceptance rate has gone up, it’s not because fewer students are angling for admission to Indiana University. The opposite is true!
Whether this trend will hold for the Class of 2030, however, remains to be seen.
