Was your son or daughter  recently waitlisted at Colorado College? First, let’s look at Colorado College’s waitlist admissions statistics from the last four years. The data in the table below is gathered directly from Colorado College’s self-reporting to The Common Data Set. The Common Data Set Initiative is a voluntary effort among colleges to help all of those involved with a student’s transition into higher education.

Projections on Colorado College’s Waitlist Activity for the Class of 2030 

While you were perusing the numbers, you probably noticed a lot of variation in the waitlist acceptance rate: last year it was  22%  and four years ago it was 0%. You’re probably wondering: Why is that? How far an admissions committee will reach down its waitlist is determined by the school’s yield, or the percentage of admitted students who choose to enroll. The higher the school’s yield, the lower the waitlist acceptance rate. 

So, in the past two years, Colorado College has had a lower yield than it enjoyed the two years before that. To put a finer point on it, the yield for the Colorado College Class of 2029 was 30.27%, but the yield for the Colorado College Class of 2026 was 40%. The most important thing to keep in mind is that yield rate is a highly unpredictable metric that not even Colorado College can forecast. 

How to Improve Your Child’s Chances of Admission Off the Colorado College Waitlist 

Now, with that knowledge, you have a few options. You could go full Skyfall mode and track down everyone who was accepted to Colorado College and beg them to not matriculate. But, unless you’re Daniel Craig, you probably won’t pull off that mission. In truth, you don’t get any control over what a school’s yield is. 

What you do get a say in is how you approach Colorado College after your child has been waitlisted. You could cross your fingers and wish upon a star. There are the four F’s: fight, flight, freeze, fawn. We prefer four other letters, though: LOCI, short for “Letter of Continued Interest.” 

Most people know about these kinds of letters. But they usually get the completely wrong advice about what to include in them. They think students should write a letter bragging about what an amazing person they’ve become in the few months since they’ve applied to Colorado College, that they’ve done a total 180, undergone a metamorphosis, solved world hunger. You could send that kind of letter, but we doubt it would help your child’s shot at getting off the waitlist.
