But members of the Class of 2030 might be left wondering: just how much emphasis is placed on academics in this admissions process? Is Case Western among the more selective schools out there? Not exactly. For applicants to Case Western’s Class of 2029, a little more than 1/3rd (35.3%) earned admission. The competition was even less stringent the previous year, when 37.78% of applicants earned admission to the Class of 2028. However, the acceptance rate has historically been prone to fluctuation, so one cannot definitively say that admission to the Class of 2030 won’t bring unprecedented competition (it’s possible!).

What is a Good GPA for Getting into Case Western University?

CWRU has only released GPA data for one of its graduating classes: the Class of 2028. The following is the GPA breakdown of the members of Case Western’s Class of 2028, as reported in Case Western’s 2024-25 Common Data Set:

Further Context on GPAs of Case Western University Students

In the last admission cycle, 17.89% of students who enrolled in Case Western’s Class of 2028 applied with perfect GPAs. The plurality of students, 46.82%, had GPAs falling between 3.75 and 4.0. Approximately one-quarter of admitted students had GPAs between 3.25 and 3.49. And there are even some admitted students who had GPAs below that. In fact, there were even a handful of Spartans who had less than a 2.5 and still got in!

We don’t have data from other admissions cycles to compare with, but this distribution indicates that GPA is of moderate importance to Case Western admissions officers. But as is the case with any elite admissions process, GPA is just one of several factors considered.

The high school attended, the rigor of the student’s coursework, their extracurricular activities, essays, and letters of recommendation are all on the minds of Case Western admissions officers when your application crosses their desk. Each is an essential piece in the mosaic of a student’s admissions odds. To the chagrin of parents who come to Ivy Coach asking if their child can get into Case Western and present their GPA alone, we (and no one else, for that matter) cannot make that determination without a holistic picture of the child’s application.

Can I Get into Case Western with a Low GPA?

You sure do, but it will help if you’re a recruited athlete or the child of major donors (because these special statuses are institutionally beneficial, and admissions officers must ultimately serve a bottom line). However, we’re not suggesting that you should apply to Case Western with a low GPA. You’ll still be at a disadvantage compared to the student with stellar grades. Think of GPA as the solid foundation through which the finer qualities of your application (A.K.A. your singular hook) can shine!
