The Harker School

The Harker School is a favorite choice for the Silicon Valley tech executives who want to give their children an education commensurate with their positions. With this popularity comes a huge skew in the student body towards STEM and Computer Science-oriented enrollees. But does this single-track culture actually fare well once Harker’s seniors find themselves in the college admissions process? Not always. In fact, Harker students have a reputation for striking out in the elite college admissions process (receiving rejections across the board from top choice schools) because they’re too intent on following in their parents’ footsteps that they don’t forge their own academic path. Still, The Harker School remains a popular choice for San Jose families. We just don’t don’t understand why!

Lynbrook High School

As one of the most academically distinguished public high schools in the Fremont Union High School District, Lynbrook High School has a reputation for renown. Despite not technically being a magnet school, Lynbrook’s academic focus leans toward STEM disciplines, as is the prevailing theme across much of Silicon Valley. A major feeder in the University of California system, Lynbrook frequently sees over half of its graduating class receive acceptance letters to at least one UC. The school’s student body is predominantly Chinese-American and Indian-American, and the lines that determine which neighborhoods feed into Lynbrook are a hotly contested issue, with the school district frequently launching investigations to verify students’ residences.
