The Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2025 admissions statistics are in the books. In all, 33,634 students applied to the St. Louis-based institution in the hope of earning admission to the Class of 2025. It marked a 20% increase in applications when compared to the Class of 2024. Of the 33,634 students who applied to Wash U’s Class of 2025, 4,374 earned admission, marking an overall admission rate of 13% — slightly lower than the 14% admission rate for the Class of 2023. Wash U is hoping to fill a class of 1,795 students. But the vast majority of these seats — over 60% in fact — are already accounted for between the two rounds of Early Decision and QuestBride admits.
Breakdown of the Admits to the Wash U Class of 2025
As Grace Kennard reports for Student Life in a piece entitled “WU receives record number of applications, admits 4,374 students in a tumultuous college admissions cycle,” “The pool of admitted students includes residents of all 50 states and 45 different countries. In addition, 10% of admitted students are the first generation in their families to attend college, 13% are Pell Grant-eligible, 15% are Latino and 15% are Black. Emily Almas, assistant vice provost and director of admissions, expressed her excitement over this year’s admitted students. ‘They are just amazing,’ Almas said. ‘They are talented and accomplished and contributed to their communities, whether that’s at their high school or in their family or their state or even involved in organizations that have had impact of a great scale…I feel very fortunate that they have indicated an interest in Wash. U. and that we have the potential to welcome these really great people to our community.'”
Not As Many Admits to the Wash U Class of 2024 Took Gap Years
Interestingly, while there were more students admitted to the Wash U Class of 2024 who chose to take gap years as compared to typical years, the increase in students who opted to defer their admission apparently wasn’t as significant as at some other highly selective universities. Perhaps this helps explain why the admission rate for the Class of 2025 wasn’t so much lower than in the past in spite of the 20% rise in applications. In any case, congratulations to Ivy Coach’s students who earned admission to the Washington University in St. Louis Class of 2025!
