Brown University has released its Early Decision notifications. In all, 4,230 students applied to Brown this fall under the school’s binding Early Decision policy. Of these 4,230 students, 769 earned admission. The pool of 4,230 applicants was 21% larger than last year’s pool and it marked the largest Early Decision pool since Brown adopted its current Early policy 17 years ago. So what a year it was for Brown’s admissions office! And what a year it was for our students at Ivy Coach who applied to Brown in the Early Decision round: every last one of them got in. Congratulations to all of our students who applied to Brown this fall!

Breakdown of the Brown Class of 2023 Early Decision Admits

As reports O’rya Hyde-Keller for “News from Brown” in a piece about Brown’s Class 0f 2023 Early Decision admits, 390 are female, while 379 are male. Brown traditionally ends up with more female than male students, a point we’ve made several times over the years on the pages of our college admissions blog. Brown consistently admits male applicants at a higher rate than their female counterparts. And why? Because they don’t get as many male applicants (during the 2014-2015 admissions cycle, as an example, Brown received 50% more female applicants than male applicants!).

In any case, nearly 12% of Early Decision admitted students to Brown’s Class of 2023 will be the first in their families to attend college (a.k.a. first-generation students). 43% of admits will receive need-based financial aid. 44% of admits are students of color; this figure includes Native American, African American, Latinx, Native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander, and Asian students. Admitted students hail from 46 states in our union and from 37 nations around our globe (China, India, Singapore, the UK, and Canada are the most-represented after the United States).

Congratulations to all of our students at Ivy Coach who applied Early Decision to Brown. We are so happy for you all! It was also fun to watch former New York Knicks great Allan Houston’s son get congratulated by his dad for getting into Brown on Instagram. Congrats to him, too!
