Yale University Class of 2027 Early Action Admissions Statistics

The Yale University Class of 2027 Early Action notifications have been released. 7,744 students applied Early Action to Yale’s Class of 2027. Of these students, 776 earned admission. This marks an Early Action admission rate of 10.02% for the New Haven, Connecticut-based Ivy League institution. To put these admissions statistics in a historical perspective, last year, 12.09% of Early Action applicants earned admission to the Yale Class of 2026. For the Yale Class of 2025, a then-record low 10.5% of Early Action applicants earned admission. Before the Class of 2025, Yale’s Early Action admission rate never dropped below 13%.
Yale Denied Most Early Action Applicants to the Class of 2027
For many years, we at Ivy Coach have stood atop our soapbox in elite college admissions and called on colleges to deny more applicants rather than defer their admission. We believe it’s wrong for elite colleges to string so many students along. Lo and behold, Yale heeded our call this year: the Ivy League school denied 67% of Early Action applicants to the Yale Class of 2027 and deferred 21% to the Regular Decision round. The 67% of Early Action rejections marked the most significant percentage of rejections for Yale in at least five years. 2% of applicants withdrew from the process.
Yale Admissions Dean Weighs in on Class of 2027 Admits
And what does Yale’s Dean of Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid Jeremiah Quinlan have to say about the admits to the Class of 2027? As Anika Seth reports for The Yale Daily News in a piece about the Yale Class of 2027 Early Action round, “The curiosity, ingenuity, and leadership these early action applicants revealed in their applications enormously impressed the members of the admissions committee. These future Yalies are poised to take advantage of the extraordinary opportunities and resources the university offers and to make meaningful contributions of their own to the vitality of the Yale community.”
