University of Pennsylvania Class of 2024 Early Decision Statistics

The admissions statistics are in the books for the Early Decision round of the Class of 2024 at the University of Pennsylvania. In all, 6,453 students applied under UPenn’s binding Early Decision policy. Of these students, 1,269 students earned admission and will be members of the next great class of the Ivy League school in the City of Brotherly Love. By our math, this marks an Early Decision admission rate of 19.7%. And how to such figures compare to the same figures for UPenn’s Class of 2023 Early Decision round? Last year, 7,110 students applied ED to UPenn, while 1,279 earned admission. The ED admit rate for the UPenn Class of 2023 was thus 18%. So it wasn’t exactly a banner year for UPenn’s admissions office this Early Decision cycle — not with applications down by several hundred and the admit rate nearly 2 points higher.
But enough about admit rates and applicant pool sizes. There isn’t too much that can be gleaned from a slight drop in ED applications and these numbers can certainly fluctuate from year to year. If the trend continues over the next couple of years at UPenn, well, then that’s cause for concern within UPenn’s admissions office. But we suspect a one-time drop in applications isn’t making UPenn’s Dean of Admissions Eric Furda sweat one bit. Nor should it! He’s too busy sweating the Eagles’ recent loss. We kid, we kid!
Breakdown of the UPenn Class of 2024 Early Decision Admits
In any case, we know you want to learn about the admitted ED students to UPenn’s Class of 2024. As Ashley Ahn reports for The Daily Pennsylvanian in a piece entitled “Penn’s early decision acceptance rate increases to 19.7% for Class of 2024,” In all, 46 of our nation’s 50 states are represented among Early Decision admits along with Washington, DC and Puerto Rico (which means the admissions office fell short by 4 of their goal!). 50 countries are represented (13% of admits are international students). 24% of admits are legacies, the children or grandchildren of a UPenn alum. 54% are female, while 46% are male. 52% of U.S. citizens or permanent residents identify as a member of a minority group (a figure that includes over-represented minorities in college admissions as well, including Asian American applicants). 10% will be the first in their families to attend college.
All Ivy Coach Applicants to UPenn’s Class of 2024 Earned Admission
It’s anticipated that Early Decision admits will fill 53% of the University of Pennsylvania Class of 2024. And we’re proud that so many of our students are filling those slots. In fact, every single one of Ivy Coach’s students who applied to the University of Pennsylvania’s Class of 2024 this Early Decision cycle earned admission. Just as did every one of our students who applied to the other seven Ivy League schools, Stanford, MIT, Duke, etc. So while it may not have been a banner year for the University of Pennsylvania, it was another banner year for Ivy Coach. Congratulations to our UPenn admits! We’re so proud of you!
