Further Context on GPAs of Princeton Students

While it should come as no surprise that the vast majority of Princeton admits graduated high school with perfect 4.0 GPAs, these numbers are born out by the data presented above. There’s very, very little room in each admitted cohort for students who did not excel academically in high school. But take a second to imagine the sheer number of students with great grades and 4.0s who don’t stand to get into Princeton despite their high achievement. What accounts for those who do? Princeton conducts a holistic review process that considers far more factors than grades alone. In other words, students must bring great grades and a singular hook and powerful extracurriculars, recommendations, and essays to their applications if they want to stand a chance of admission.

Can My Child Get into Princeton with a Low GPA?

Earning admission to Princeton with a low GPA is virtually impossible. Those who do manage to do the impossible likely have special statuses that give them an admissions boost, such as being recruited athletes, the children of major donors (A.K.A. development cases), or the children of Princeton alumni (A.K.A. legacies).
