We’re five games into the latest college football season so we figured we’d check in on where each Ivy League football team falls in the current standings. And if you’re wondering why we write about Ivy League football, well, the Ivy League was founded as a football league and you bet each and every Ivy League school cares about their success on the gridiron. A significant chunk of each incoming class at an Ivy League school also consists of…you guessed it…football recruits. So football absolutely impacts admissions — more so than any other sport.
Dartmouth, Princeton Perfect So Far
So which Ivy League school tops the 2019 standings thus far? That would be Dartmouth College, led by Buddy Teevens, a man who hasn’t only continued Dartmouth’s winning football tradition (no Ivy League school has more Ivy League titles than Dartmouth and the University of Pennsylvania, with 18 apiece) but has truly revolutionized the sport. Buddy Teevens is a longtime hero of this college admissions blog. But we digress. Back to the standings. Dartmouth sits at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Ivy League play. Princeton University, last year’s Ivy League champion, also sits at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in Ivy League play. Harvard University sits at 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. Yale University is 4-1 and 1-1 in Ivy League play. Columbia University, the 1934 Rose Bowl champion, sits at 2-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play. University of Pennsylvania is 2-3 overall and 0-2 against its Ivy League peers. Cornell University sits at 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play. And Brown University also sits at 1-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
We Predict Dartmouth Will Claim Ivy League Title
As our loyal readers know, we’ve got a crystal ball at Ivy Coach, one cited in Dartmouth’s newspaper no less. It’s highly accurate, although it recently forecasted the Students For Fair Admissions v. Harvard University decision would be announced by Judge Allison Burroughs in December; that decision came out earlier this month. Our crystal ball got it wrong! But, in any case, what does our crystal ball foretell about this Ivy League football season? The reading was already announced in November of 2018: we predicted then that Dartmouth College would claim the 2019 Ivy League title. And they are indeed right on pace! Our crystal ball also hereby predicts that Cornell University will pull off a couple of wins before the season is over.
