Are you curious to learn more about the recently admitted Cornell University Class of 2030? So are we! Unfortunately, when Cornell announced earlier this week that its admissions officers had chosen 5,776 high school seniors to join its ranks, the Big Red neglected to share any further details. This cohort marks a 0.8% increase from last year’s cohort of 5,824 accepted students, but since we don’t know how many students applied, we can’t yet calculate the Cornell acceptance rate for the Class of 2030.

Not to worry! The federally mandated Common Data Set this fall will provide us with more comprehensive information about the Cornell Class of 2030. Until then, there’s still plenty we at Ivy Coach can dissect and predict about this year’s lucky crop of Cornellians joining the Ivy League.

It’s worth noting that the most selective year on record for Cornell occurred four years ago, for admission to the Class of 2026, where a mere 6.9% of applicants were accepted from a then record-setting applicant pool of 71,064 students. That said, only 4,908 students were admitted in that cohort, nearly 1,000 less than this year. What’s more, the Class of 2029 broke that record for largest applicant pool when 72,519 students applied last year.

Profile of the Cornell University Admits to the Class of 2030

Here’s what we do know about this incoming class of Cornellians. According to reporting by The Cornell Daily Sun, “The newly-minted admits to the Cornell community — hailing from all 50 states and 102 countries — will join a community of students studying nearly 80 majors across eight different colleges.” Beyond this tidbit and a few anecdotal pictures of selected members of the Class of 2030 shared in a Cornell press release, there’s not much else we can say about these students

We don’t know their racial or ethnic makeup, their gender breakdown, the proportion of first-generation low-income students, or the number of Pell Grant recipients. Until this information is released next fall, anyone outside the current Cornell admissions office who purports to know any of these answers is idly speculating.

Ivy Coach’s Prediction for the Cornell Class of 2030 Acceptance Rate

We at Ivy Coach are not in the business of idle speculation. Our famously accurate crystal ball solely traffics in well-educated guesses that rarely lead us astray. We predict that once the data arrives, it will show a moderate increase in Cornell’s overall acceptance rate. And what has led us to this prediction? Well, the fact that the Class of 2030 was the first cohort admitted under Cornell’s newly reinstated mandatory standardized testing policy suggests that when the acceptance rate data finally does arrive, it could indicate a hike in acceptance rate corresponding to a decrease in the total number of applicants (with “squeakers,” or students who try to attend schools without submitting test scores, vacating the applicant pool in droves and thus driving up acceptance rate).
