2022 Ivy League Football Season
As we’re about midway through the Ivy League football season, let’s check in on where each Ivy League school stands in not the US News & World Report annual college rankings but the football rankings. After all, the Ivy League was formed as a football league and football remains part of the lifeblood of each of the Ancient Eight institutions to this day. So which Ivy League school currently sits atop the Ivy League?
That distinction belongs to both the University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University. Each school boasts identical 6-0 (overall), 3-0 Ivy League records. Harvard College and Yale University are current in a tie for third place, with 4-2 overall records and 2-1 records in Ivy League action. Cornell University sits at 4-2 overall, 1-2 in Ivy League play. Dartmouth College is at 2-4 overall, 1-2 in Ivy League play. Columbia University sits at 3-3 overall and 0-3 in Ivy League action. And Brown University is in last place at 2-4 overall, 0-3 in Ivy League play.
So which school’s team is the biggest surprise this year? That would be UPenn. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania-based institution was projected to finish sixth in a preseason poll. And the biggest disappointment? That would be Dartmouth, the two-time defending Ivy League champion and the winningest team in Ivy League history. Dartmouth, along with Harvard, was projected to finish first in the preseason poll. Yet while Harvard has been performing well, Dartmouth is having an uncharacteristically off season under Coach Buddy Teevens.
