UPenn Class of 2023 Early Decision Statistics

It was a banner Early Decision cycle for the University of Pennsylvania’s admissions office this fall. In all, the university received 7,110 applications to its Class of 2023 under its binding Early Decision program. Of these students, 1,279 got in. This marks an Early Decision admit rate of 18% for the UPenn Class of 2023. For the UPenn Class of 2022, 18.5% of applicants got in and the total ED pool stood at a then-record 7,074 applicants. So while last year’s Early Decision cycle may have marked a milestone for the university, a new benchmark was set this cycle. And so it goes in highly selective college admissions!
UPenn Class of 2023 Early Decision Admits
Among the admitted Early Decision students to UPenn’s Class of 2023, 23% are legacies (alright — it’s going in the right direction, down from 25% for the Class of 2022). 13% are non-U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Domestic students hail from 42 states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. International students hail from 48 foreign countries. 51% are female and 49% are male. 11% will be the first in their families to attend college (first-generation students). 48% of U.S. citizens and/or permanent residents identify as members of a minority group.
As reports Seth Schuster for “The Daily Pennsylvanian” in a piece entitled “Penn’s early decision acceptance rate drops to 18 percent for Class of 2023,” “Penn admitted 1,279 students this year through early decision to the Class of 2023, just 18 percent of the applicant pool — the lowest acceptance rate to date. For the Class of 2022, Penn admitted 1,312 students, 18.5 percent, of its early decision applicants, a significant decrease from the two prior years, whose ED rates were 22 percent and 23.2 percent, respectively. Each year, the University admits approximately half of the incoming class through early decision. This year, the 1,279 students admitted account for about 53 percent of the expected enrolling class.”
Congratulations to our students at Ivy Coach who earned admission to the University of Pennsylvania this Early Decision cycle. Every last one of our students who we recommended apply to UPenn’s Class of 2023 through the Early Decision program got in and we’re very proud of them!
