Georgia Tech is an increasingly popular option for the nation’s top STEM students, and the downward trend in its Early Action acceptance rate is a good indicator of its growing reputation. Ten years or so ago, Georgia Tech was not considered one of the more selective colleges; however, recent years have brought heightened popularity, resulting in lower acceptance rates.

If you’re intent on applying to Georgia Tech’s non-binding Early Action II round for admission to the Class of 2030, you’ve come to the right place to get a sense of just how competitive this year’s admissions cycle will be. Note that at Georgia Tech, Early Action is offered in two phases: Early Action I for Georgia residents and Early Action II for non-Georgia residents. As one can imagine, it’s much easier for domestic Georgia students to earn admission to this Atlanta-based campus.

EA I results have already been released for domestic GA residents, and we’ll unpack those numbers below to give those international and non-Georgia based US students applying to Georgia Tech in the next Early Action round the full picture.

Georgia Tech Offers Admission to Early Action I Applicants to the Class of 2030

The Early Action admissions cycle for the Class of 2030 has officially begun at GT with the recent announcement of the domestic GA residents admitted via EA I. As reported by a Georgia Tech press release, “On Friday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m., first-year admission decisions were delivered to approximately 8,700 students who applied in Georgia Tech’s Early Action 1 admission round, an application phase specifically designated for Georgia students. From this pool, 2,640 were offered admission to the 2026 first-year class.”

By our tabulations, this places the Early Action I acceptance rate somewhere around 30.34%, although their use of the word “approximately” to describe the total applicant pool has certainly hindered our ability to be specific. GT continues, “The admitted students hail from 115 Georgia counties and 391 high schools.”

As the rest of the GT applicants who have availed themselves of the Early round admission boost wait for late January to swing around to receive EA II decisions, students should note that this data suggests record-high competition awaits: “The all-time high in applications for this admission phase represents a 7.3% increase from last year and includes 27 Georgia counties where application volumes increased by more than 100%.”

Georgia Tech Admissions Statistics Over 9+ Years

For admission to the Class of 2029, a combined total of 12.65% of Georgia Tech Early Action I and II applicants earned admission, which is the EA lowest acceptance rate recorded at the school to date. For the Class of 2028, that figure stood at 15.89%. Before that point, however, the data becomes rather unreliable. We don’t know the combined Early Action acceptance rate for the Classes of 2027 and 2026. The Class of 2025 recorded a 27.63% acceptance rate, and the Class of 2024 was accepted in the Early Action rounds at a rate of 19.89%.

While this patchwork of data doesn’t show a consistent downward trend year by year, taken as a whole, it suggests that Georgia Tech has become increasingly competitive for Early Action applicants.
