Dartmouth College received a record number of Early Decision applications to its Class of 2027.

It was a banner Early Decision cycle for Dartmouth College’s Class of 2027. As Ivy Coach broke the news on November 3rd when we got the early word on the Dartmouth Class of 2027 Early Decision application tally, a record 3,009 students applied to the Hanover, New Hampshire-based Ivy League institution to earn admission to the Class of 2027. Of these students, 578 got in, marking an Early Decision admission rate of 19% for Dartmouth — a record low. Additionally, 47 students matched with Dartmouth through QuestBridge. So the total number of admits to the Dartmouth Class of 2027 now stands at 625.

Dartmouth’s Class of 2027 Early Decision Applications in Historical Perspective

This year’s 3,009 Early Decision applicants to Dartmouth’s Class of 2027 eclipsed the Class of 2026‘s 2,633 Early Decision applicants. Before the Class of 2027, Dartmouth received the most Early Decision applications to its Class of 2025 when 2,644 students made binding commitments to attend if admitted. Before the Class of 2025, as the admissions statistics for the Ivy League school lay bare, the school’s Early Decision application figure never topped 2,500 (though it came close!).

Dartmouth’s Class of 2027 Early Decision Admission Rate in Historical Perspective

Dartmouth’s historic 19.7% Early Decision admission rate for the Class of 2027 was also noteworthy. Last year, this figure stood at 21.27% for the Class of 2026. Before the Class of 2026, Dartmouth’s Early Decision admission rate never dropped below 21%. Compared to the other seven Ivy League universities, Dartmouth typically has the second-highest Early admission rate (Cornell’s Early admission rate is usually higher).

Demographic Breakdown of the Dartmouth Class of 2027 Early Decision Admits

The admitted Early Decision applicants to Dartmouth’s Class of 2027 hail from 44 nations, a figure up significantly from last year’s 36 countries, and from 47 states, in addition to Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 41% of admitted American applicants are students of color. 15% of American admits will be the first in their families to attend college. Additionally, 14% of admitted students are legacies, the sons, daughters, and grandchildren of Dartmouth alumni.
