The Tufts University Class of 2022 statistics are in. A total of 21,501 students applied for admission to the university this year, marking an all-time record for the Medford, Massachusetts-based university. The application figure marks a 2% increase from last year. Note these application figures represent combined Early Decision I, Early Decision II, and Regular Decision numbers. It’s anticipated that Tufts’ Class of 2022 will consist of about 1,435 students in total. The Tufts Class of 2021 totaled 1,414 students.
A Record Number of Total Applications to Tufts
While the university set a record for total applications this year, the school did not set a new benchmark for total number of Early Decision applications. This year, 2,249 students made binding commitments to attend Tufts if granted admission. The number didn’t quite match last year’s record total of 2,310 students who applied to the university through its Early Decision program (of which there are two rounds). It’s anticipated that Tufts will fill about half of its seats in its incoming class through the Early Decision pools.
Students from all 50 nifty United States submitted applications to Tufts and 17% of applicants hail from outside of the United States. In all, 132 countries are represented in the applicant pool to Tufts with China, unsurprisingly, being the most represented nation among international applicants. As reports Laura Ferguson for “Tufts Now” in a piece about Tufts’ Class of 2022, “New countries to the Tufts application pool include Barbados, Belize, and Guyana. Admissions also saw a ‘significant increase’ in applications from Brazil, Costa Rica, and Egypt, said Richardson. All 50 states are represented, with the most applications coming from Massachusetts, New York, and California.”
Good luck to all students hoping to earn admission to Tufts this year and congratulations to those students who earned admission this Early Decision I cycle to the university!
