Swarthmore College has notified applicants of admissions decisions for its Class of 2022. In all, 980 students have been offered admission to the Pennsylvania-based liberal arts college this year. These students were admitted from a pool of 10,749 applicants, a figure the university has denoted as “historic.” The admit rate for the year thus stands at a shade over 9%. It’s anticipated that around 420 of these students will choose to matriculate to the school that ranked in a tie for third in the 2018 “US News & World Report” ranking for “Best National Liberal Arts Colleges” (Williams College ranked $#1, Amherst College #2, and Bowdoin College and Wellesley College took the #3 slot along with Swarthmore).

Swarthmore Class of 2022

Among the students offered admission to the Swarthmore Class of 2022, as reports Swarthmore in a press release, 24% will be the first in their families to attend college. That’s a sizable percentage of admitted students indeed — way to go Swarthmore! 65% of students hail from public or charter high schools, 23% from private or independent schools, 11% from parochial schools, and 1% are home-schooled. 10% of students hail from outside of the United States. It’s always nice to see international students choosing to apply to liberal arts colleges in America.

As stated in the release, “China with 20 students is the most represented nation among non-U.S. citizens in the admitted class. Six are from Brazil, India, Mexico, and South Korea, five are from the United Kingdom, four are from Canada and Japan, three are from Australia and Ghana, and two each are from Bahrain, Costa Rica, Egypt, Hong Kong, Lebanon, Pakistan, Palestine, Singapore, and Vietnam.  One each is from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Bulgaria, Colombia, Congo (Kinshasa), Ethiopia, France, Germany, Guatemala, Guyana, Indonesia, Kenya, Kosovo, Kuwait, Malta, Mongolia, Namibia, Nepal, Paraguay, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe.”

Congratulations to all students who earned admission to the Swarthmore College Class of 2022! Interestingly, the most popular major at this elite liberal arts colleges among admitted students to the incoming class is…wait for it…engineering. Would you have guessed?
