New York University has announced its application tally for the Class of 2026. Between Early Decision I, Early Decision II, and Regular Decision, NYU received over 105,000 applications. This marks a 5% increase from last year for the Class of 2025, a year that marked the first time the Greenwich Village-based institution crossed the 100,000 application threshold. In fact, it marks the fifteenth year in a row that NYU has increased its application tally. That’s right. In each of the last 15 years, NYU has set a new record with respect to the number of students who are submitting applications. And while all highly selective universities in America have witnessed surges in applications over the last 15 years, few have increased their tally in each of the last 15 years. There’s typically an off year here or there. NYU’s feat is thus all the more impressive if you ask us!

As John Beckman writes in an NYU news release entitled “New Record for NYU: University Receives 105,000 Applications for First-Year Admission,” “NYU received over 19,000 Early Decision (ED) applications, a 12% increase over fall 2021. This includes increases in first generation, underrepresented, and international applicants. ‘We understand that this is another particularly challenging admissions season for many families, and we are both humbled and delighted that NYU continues to be the first choice for such a diverse and talented cohort of college-going students,’ says MJ Knoll-Finn, NYU’s Senior Vice President of Enrollment Management & Student Success. NYU’s application deadline was Wednesday, January 5, 2022. More detailed information on the applicant pool will come shortly.”
