June SAT Testing Canceled

June SAT Testing, June Testing Canceled, Pandemic and SAT
June SAT and SAT Subject Test testing is off due to the pandemic.

College Board made headlines today for two reasons: (1) the June 6, 2020 SAT and SAT Subject Test administration has been canceled; (2) College Board is preparing take-home SAT and SAT Subject Tests for the fall. ACT is preparing for a take-home ACT in the fall as well. Just a few days ago, Ivy Coach’s crystal ball forecasted that College Board and ACT would make every effort to switch to take-home tests — just as College Board did with AP exams this coming May. But we also forecasted these organizations — organizations driven by their bottom lines — would make every effort to get these exams ready to go for June. It seems that even College Board and ACT can’t act that quickly. Hey, our crystal ball gets one wrong every now and then.

College Board and ACT Prepare for Take-Home Exams in the Fall

As The New York Times reports, “The College Board, which administers the SAT, gave few details in an announcement on Wednesday about what the at-home test would look like, or how it would differ from the traditional test — normally taken on paper in a highly secure setting under the watchful eye of proctors…The College Board, a nonprofit that brings in more than $1 billion in revenue a year, said in a statement on Wednesday saying that the organization would strive to make the SAT ’accessible to all,’ acknowledging that ’families hit hardest are often those with the fewest resources.’ But it did not specify how it planned to address those disparities.”

June SAT and SAT Subject Tests are Canceled

College Board also emailed June test-takers today, notifying students that the June administration has been canceled. As they wrote in their communication, “We won’t be able to administer the SAT® and SAT Subject Tests™ as planned on June 6, 2020. We’ll ensure that you and all students have opportunities to take the SAT to make up for this spring’s lost administrations. If it’s safe from a public health standpoint, we’ll provide weekend SAT administrations every month through the end of the calendar year, beginning in August. This includes a new administration in September, in addition to the previously scheduled tests. As a student who was registered for June, you’ll have early access to registration for the August, September, and October administrations. Your June registration will remain in your account, and you may transfer it, free of charge, to one of the summer or fall administrations when registration opens in May.”

Have a question about College Board’s and/or ACT’s plans for the fall? If so, we probably can’t answer it…and neither can anyone else (including, likely, College Board and ACT!). Everything is all still in the works. But if you still wish to post your question, you can do so below. We look forward to hearing from you!
