What is the University of Connecticut?

The University of Connecticut (UConn) is a public land-grant research university with its main campus in Storrs, Connecticut. UConn’s undergraduate student body consists of 8,707 men and 10,829 women, for a total of 19,536 full-time undergraduates. 73% of UConn undergraduates are Connecticut residents, while 7% are international.

UConn Admissions Requirements

While UConn isn’t the most competitive university out there in terms of admissions, one shouldn’t simply go in blind to this process. UConn GPA Requirements

UConn GPA requirements for admission vary according to the undergraduate program to which you intend to apply. Across different schools, a minimum GPA of 3.0 to 3.3 is required for admission eligibility. Specific requirements can be found on the University of Connecticut website, under what they term “Restrict Programs.” Note that not every program has a minimum GPA requirement.

UConn is test-optional.

Does UConn Superscore SAT or ACT Scores?

A superscore combines the highest section scores from each test sitting for admissions evaluation. UConn superscores the SAT and the ACT, evaluating the highest scores reported from the official testing agency.

In any event, we advise students to proceed with caution: you should ideally only submit one test score. Submitting multiple test administrations shows UConn that you had to work harder than many other applicants to achieve your scores, so Ivy Coach, with exceptions, discourages the practice.

What High School Courses Does UConn Require?

The UConn Undergraduate Admissions office recommends the following high school curriculum for all prospective applicants:

• 4 units of English
• 3 units of math (algebra I, algebra II, and geometry or their equivalents)
• 2 units of social science or history
• 2 units of a single foreign language (3 units strongly recommended)
• 2 units of laboratory science
• 3 units of electives
• Elisabeth DeLuca School of Nursing applicants: high school chemistry and biology are required.
• College of Engineering applicants: high school chemistry or physics is required.

With that being said, four years of study in each core subject is essential for a competitive college application anywhere in the U.S., and foreign language study ideally should begin by eighth grade.

What Extracurriculars Does UConn Look For in Applicants?

When it comes to extracurriculars, the last thing a prospective applicant should do is frame themselves as well-rounded. Admissions officers at UConn strive to create diverse classes of students comprising experts and specialists. Decorated artists, groundbreaking researchers, and innovative activists who each push the needle in their respective fields will fare a lot better than those with a jack-of-all-trades approach to resume building. Students should pursue their special “thing” as far as it will go, because UConn will take notice!
