Emory University’s Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective

Emory is generally becoming more selective year by year, with a ballooning number of applicants trying their luck for admission. With the Class of 2030 drawing the highest volume of applicants on record, at 43,269, and the lowest acceptance rate recorded (12.29%), admissions officers at Emory are surely jumping for joy. The cohort of 5,317 students admitted this year is about average size, but the competition that these students faced is anything but.

The Demographic Breakdown of Emory’s Class of 2030

According to an Emory University press release, “A total of 43,269 students applied this year across all admission plans — an increase of more than 5,000 applicants compared to the previous year. Students admitted to the Class of 2030 have hometowns across all 50 states plus Washington, D.C., five U.S. territories, and multiple overseas Army Post Office locations. The admitted class also represents 77 countries and 12% of the admitted students will be the first in their families to earn a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.”

Why Test-Optional Admissions Are Inflating Emory’s Admissions Statistics

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit six or so years ago (remember that?), Emory joined leagues of elite colleges in piloting test-optional admissions to give high school students a break from this particularly grueling aspect of the application process.

So what’s all the hullabaloo?
