First, just how difficult is it to get into Clemson? For applicants to Clemson’s Class of 2029, a sizable 42.43% earned admission. The year prior, for the Class of 2028, 38.34% of the applicants were accepted, and for the Class of 2027, this figure stood at 38.05%.

Further Context on GPAs of Clemson Students

So, last year, 86% of students who enrolled in Clemson’s Class of 2028 boasted perfect GPAs, while 81% of students in Clemson’s Class of 2027, and 79% of students in Clemson’s Class of 2026 had perfect GPAs. Are these numbers to be believed? How can Clemson possibly have an admitted student grade distribution comparable to that of an Ivy League school?

We suspect Clemson of using weighted GPA data here. That’s the only way they could have reported figures demonstrating nearly all admits had perfect grades in high school, an unlikely feat, given Clemson’s academic reputation compared to other elite schools.

In any event, GPA is still not everything. It’s why we will not offer an answer when parents rattle off their child’s GPA during complimentary consultations with Ivy Coach and ask if they can get into Clemson University. Without context, including the high school attended, the rigor of the student’s coursework, their extracurriculars, essays, letters of recommendation, and so much more, the answer we (or anyone, for that matter) could give wouldn’t predict anything.

Can I Get into Clemson University with a Low GPA?

While it’s certainly possible to get into Clemson with a low GPA, as the numbers bear out, it’s improbable. We probably don’t know the unweighted distribution of GPAs for Clemon admits, but the data still do suggest that a small proportion of students are getting into the college with GPAs below 2.5. However, we would speculate these admits were likely bringing a special status to the table, such as being a recruited athlete or the child of a major donor, that got their admission fast-tracked.
