Amherst College’s Class of 2030 in Historical Perspective

All signs point to the fact that this could be a record-breaking year for Amherst. Last year, 15,819 students applied to join the proud home of the Mammoths, the largest applicant pool in the school’s history. Alongside this impressive showing was a highly selective acceptance rate of 7.72%, which came close to breaking the record for the lowest acceptance set by the Class of 2026 (7.26%). Alas, the Class of 2029 acceptance rate did not dip low enough to take the crown away from an admissions cycle that was one of the most competitive on record across all elite colleges due to the high volume of applicants who put off applying the year before because of the Pandemic and thus flooded admissions offices to join the Class of 2026.

Over the last five years, an average of 8.51% of Amherst applicants were admitted, out of an average pool of 14,230 applicants.
